The story behind the print
My print has been carved out of Lino in an attempt to capture the wilds of the Winshields and all that was found of the roman soldiers living there. This area is in the middle of the wall sitting at its highest point, looking out across the rugged landscape. It is a wilderness where the wind whips at you mercilessly as if to defy you for daring to stand there.
And as I looked out across the rough and weathered landscape, I wanted to capture and carve a sense of this wild land where the elements rule. I could almost imagine the whistling winds enveloping those poor legionaries standing guard at the edge of the world with Silvanus, the Roman God of the wilderness, pulling them and all that is left of them into this unknown rugged wilderness.
