As a printmaker my interest is in architecture and structures in the landscape. For this project I explored my allotted area between Linstock and Walby on foot, and photographed many of the buildings I encountered. Back in the studio I sorted through these images and sketched out a collage-style layout to give an impression of the kinds of buildings and infrastructure I had walked past. I used motifs of foliage and power lines to tie the disparate elements together.

The etching is also a collage of ideas; I was trying to convey the impression of an old printed wallpaper, and also give the whole print a Japanese feel. The eagle in the top right of the composition is a reference to the symbol of Rome. This etching is a lot less representational and much flatter than my normal work. This has given me some ideas for the future.
